Dr. Chandrashekar is a leading gastroenterologist in India and the founder chairman of Medindia Hospitals, a healthcare facility based in Chennai. Presently, he also serves as the head adjunct professor in Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. He is credited with performing over 23,000 endoscopy procedures and is known for the Braille chart on personal hygiene he prepared in 2015 for visually impaired people. A Padma Shri awardee, he is also the founder of the Medindia Charitable Trust, which is involved in healthcare services to the poor through free medical camps, health awareness programs, and concessional treatment.
